A suburb designed before the car, and it shows
In 1911, the developer George Stephens hired the landscape architect John Nolen to lay out a cotton farm southeast of Charlotte. Nolen refused the grid. He curved the streets to follow the land's contours, set houses back behind deep lawns, and specified willow oaks along every right-of-way — trees that would take fifty years to come into their own.
They did. Today the canopy over Queens Road West is the single most photographed thing in Charlotte, and the houses beneath it run from 1915 Colonial Revivals to carefully argued modern infill. Myers Park is not a preserved district frozen in amber; it is a working neighborhood where the standard of care simply never dropped.

Sidewalks run nearly everywhere, the Little Sugar Creek Greenway connects the neighborhood to Uptown and Freedom Park, and Selwyn Avenue offers a small commercial node. For groceries, dining variety, and shopping, most residents drive a few minutes to Park Road, Providence Road, or SouthPark.
